BOXING TIP #10: Don't be a Metronome
According to Wikipedia, the definition of a metronome is:
"...device that produces regular, metrical ticks (beats, clicks) — settable in beats per minute. These ticks represent a fixed, regular aural pulse;"
Every time I see a boxer repeat the same pace or "beat" when hitting the heavy bag, hitting the mitts, or sparring, I say, "Don't be a metronome!" Always mix up your tempo when engaging in the sweet science. Do not be predictable and NEVER keep the same pace when throwing punches. It is easy for a counter punch to be set up when you or your opponent is doing the same thing over and over again. Mix up the combinations and pace. If not, you will be sure to get caught with a devastating blow.
