BOXING TIP #1: GET THE PROPER EQUIPMENT
The MINIMUM equipment a boxer should have are 180” hand wraps, boxing/wrestling shoes, and a mouthpiece. The wraps are to protect the hands and wrists from continuous pounding on the heavy bag and mitts. The shoes are to prevent injuries to the feet, ankles, and knees. Last but definitely not least, the mouthpiece is to protect the jaw and pearly whites. The mouthpiece is to protect not necessarily from sparring but from shadow boxing drills and/or mitt holding. Mistakes do happen. So don’t be surprised when doing boxing drills, you may receive a right hand to the mouth.
Some gyms may provide boxing gloves for heavy bag/mitt work and some may not. Bag gloves are essential in learning the sport. Down the road sparring gear will be a necessity if or when the boxer decides to step into the squared circle and duke it out.
